Meena and I stepped into her office, and she closed the door, gesturing toward a chair. I sat and folded my hands in my lap. She eased into her chair behind the desk and leaned forward. "What's on your mind?"
I cleared my throat. "I need clarification on my job description. Aren't we supposed to comfort the residents?"
Meena's eyes narrowed. "Yes." She was obviously wary of where I was going with this.
"Then, why were you angry when Gabby and I were trying to calm Mabel?"
"Who said I was angry? And why did it take two of you?"
"Mabel was terrified, and her roommate came to find us."
Meena sat back as if considering. "You know we're shorthanded, don't you?"
"I'm well aware of that."
"Then, be more careful in the future that you're where you're needed most." She paused. "If you value your job, that is."
I frowned. Was she threatening me?
Meena went on. "Unless you'd rather I fire your friend, Gabby?"
Definitely a threat. "No ma'am." I needed to rethink how to handle this situation. And not to strike until I'm ready.
